The “Survivor” million dollar winner was “detained for a vehicle code violation” when an officer apprehended him for skateboarding in the middle of the street. It was discovered that there was a warrant out for his arrest for a prior incident, in which he is suspected for driving under the influence. Further, he is on probation for a DUI.

“During the time the officer was with him, the officer determined he was under the influence for a controlled substance and placed him under arrest for the open charge of being under the influence and a probation violation, along with the outstanding warrant,” Sergeant Louis told “The Insider.” Test results will show what substance was in his system, but no such conclusions have yet been drawn.

Survivor Chase’s song on reunion “opened some pretty big doors” in country music + reality blurred

January 18th, 2011 | Posted in Survivor Nicaragua Cast

After Chase performed “Buzz Back,” it was released as a single (listen on iTunes), and country music stations are now broadcasting it. That “opened some pretty big doors, I think,” Chase told the Asheville Citizen-Times. And now he wants to have another song become a NASCAR promo on ESPN: “I’d like to get involved in NASCAR through my music. I have a song, ‘Heathens in the Evenin” that’s a NASCAR rockin’ type song that we’re going to talk to ESPN about and try to have it be a promo for NASCAR.”

Survivor Nicaragua Red Carpet Interviews

December 20th, 2010 | Posted in Episode 15 - Survivor

Sash
On the red carpet, after the live reunion show, Sash seemed to be much more genuine than what we saw on the show.

He is a huge fan of the show, so he’s watched every season and studied how everyone has won. He knows the game. He knows the strategies.

Why didn’t you win? “Fabio played with a strategy that I’ve never seen before. I wasn’t ready for that.”

Would he have done anything different? “No! I would have played exactly the same.”

Why didn’t you get any votes? “I played the best game out there. I hoped that some people on the jury would respect the game, and that there wouldn’t be a bitter jury, but that’s the way things go. They’re free to vote any way they want.”

You came off as arrogant sometimes, always saying that you were in control of the game. “I was! Most of the time, I was in control of the game. I was the most strategic player out there. If NaOnka and Purple Kelly wouldn’t have quit, I probably would have won the game.”

Could you have beaten Holly? “Yes. I think I could have.”

How’s your relationship with Fabio? “Fabio deserved to win. He’s a great guy. He played a game that I never saw before and he beat me. I give him all the credit in the world.”

Chase

I’m a NASCAR fan, so I had to ask him about his job. He said he no longer works for NASCAR and is pursuing his singing career full time now.

You seemed to be really wishy washy out there. What happened? “I was wishy washy. I hated playing this game. I’m not comfortable lying and backstabbing and everything you need to do to play this game. I didn’t like. I hated not being myself. I was not having fun with it.”

Why did you want to play? “It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity, but it drove me crazy. I respect the game, but it’s not for me.”

Who voted for you? “Jane, Holly, Alina, and Brenda.”

Were you happy with the edit you got? Is what we saw out there accurate? “No. Not at all. There were a lot of things that went down that weren’t very accurate. I can’t talk about. I just can’t go into that.”

Would you ever play again if they asked you to come back? “No. Never. I’m just not good at lying.”

Holly

Tell me about your experience. “I made it almost to the end. I had the time of my life.”

When you destroyed Dan’s shoes, I would have voted you off right then. What happened? “I know. I had a little luck. If tyrone didn’t in that challenge, I would have gone home that night. Switching the teams up really helped. I feel like I didn’t fit in with the original Espada.”

You seemed to do well after that. “Yeah. Being around the kids, I totally did a 180. Benry reminded me of our son and Alina reminded me of our daughter.”

Tell me about Jane. “She and I had an alliance from the beginning and after the merge. When we voted her out, she was very hurt. She’s coming around. I sent her a couple emails and got no response. I did the whole apology thing. Tonight, I gave her a hug and told her that she deserved her award. She worked hard. She worked hard and she deserved it. She responded to that.”

What happened with Dan’s shoes? “It’s horrible. I watched that 2nd episode with friends. I think it was lack of sleep and lack of food. I missed my family and I was just overwhelmed. Dan just got under my skin. He was constantly bragging about his money and his cars and his shoes. The whole thing was an emotional roller coaster. After I got over that, I got my head in the game and I was all right.”

You did really well. “I was the last original Espada. I was the last lady. That was an accomplishment. I’m proud of that. I did not leave the game with bitterness. I tell people that it’s not how you walk on the playing field, it’s how you walk off. I wanted to be an example of that.

What did you think at the very beginning, when they divided you by age? “You want to know what my first reaction was? My first reaction was Yve is over 40??? You’ve got to be kidding me. She looks like she’s 28.”

Tell me about Jimmy Johnson. “He was the weakest member at that point. On the 2nd day he was throwing up. It really took a toll on body. We all felt like it was just time for him to go.”

Fabio

I’m a fan of yours. “Thanks, dude! I love hearing that.”

Did you know who Fabio is? “Yeah. I thought isn’t he kind of a cheese ball? He got hit by a bird on a roller coaster or something. I said I gotta be the cool Fabio. I don’t care what they call me cuz I’m gonna win. I’m so glad I said that because that’s what happened.”

What was your strategy? Sash should have beat you. “Yeah, and he didn’t one vote! It’s like anything artistic. You want to do it with beauty, with ease, and with a sense of the whole. Timing and details. Details. You have to put in your memory bank any weird look that you saw somebody give somebody else that maybe shouldn’t have happened. You have to be perceptive, socially perceptive.”

Do you think you got lucky? “Yes. I believe that you create your own luck. But there’s definitely an amount of chance and I definitely lucked out, man.

You won the last 3 in a row. How did you do that? “It had to be done, man. Talk about the jungle man. Being stripped away from society, you’re thinking about everything in your life. What is a good influence. What is a bad influence. It’s clarity. I was just thinking. It came down to me not eating for 14 days, being left at the family thing and just being pissed off and at that point, I was just like, I can’t let anyone else win this.

Benry was like “We were all in the jury saying Fabio has to win! He has to win! It was also encouraging knowing that the jury was pulling for me, so I didn’t need to go and do jury work like Sash did, which kind of pisses people off. I trusted that everything I did in the last 38 days was my jury work. I also knew that If I didn’t go on , then I wasn’t getting , so timing.

Having a genuine sense for people. I studied theater for 3 years, which is not why I wanted to get on TV and stuff, but having a sense of connecting with someone, being in tune. It’s heightened when you’re out there. It’s a matter of acknowledging that and using it.

How much did you think about strategies and numbers? “Yeah. When other people, Marty would devise a plan, or Sash, I was very aware of the numbers, and I calculated it for my own personal whatever, and I was also thinking 2 or 3 moves ahead. I usually knew how the vote was going to go down because I had a good repore with everybody, and I knew it wasn’t me, so I didn’t freak out. It didn’t affect my game playing. Well, yeah, it does, but.

Sash said that you didn’t know half the votes that were going down. “All right. When we devised the plan with Marty, and they were trying to get Brenda out, I knew that if it wasn’t Brenda, then it was going to be Marty. Everybody knew that. What was I left in the dark on? Benry? When Benry got voted out, I had no idea, but that’s also where I talk about pre…, other in the game, because Sash and Chase felt like they could trust me more, and they knew Benry was lying, so they decided to keep me in the game instead. That’s me being lucky because of something that I set myself up for.

Tell me about your relationship with NaOnka. “It’s wild, man! It’s fun! I don’t say wild. We’re not like hooking up or anything.”

It started with her stealing her socks and hating. “I think NaOnka, she had to put negative energy on somebody. She had to let it out somehow. We’d also have happy moments too. I knew some of it was a ploy, but also, when the cameras would pop up, it would kind of turn on a little bit more. It was a game within a game.

What happened on the volcano? “Yeah, man. This is another instance of Zen and the Art of Collecting Game Info or whatever. I had NaOnka coming up to me and telling me stuff because nobody else would expect it. That was another instance of me setting myself up. And it was truth. We could have done well, but she ended up quitting, which is also cool with me too. It went from a 9 person game to a 7 person one.

Fabio’s win sort of redeems Survivor Nicaragua; quitters may no longer be on jury + reality blurred

December 20th, 2010 | Posted in Episode 15 - Survivor

This season’s actual winner, Fabio got a minute or two to tell us “I’ve been crazy for a while” and reveal that his great-grandparents invented the color wheel and folding card tables. But beyond that he didn’t or couldn’t say much. Meanwhile, Jeff called Jane popular, and she apparently is, but she did a good job of eroding her likability by remaining bitter during the final Tribal Council, calling Sash a “New York City river rat” yet failing to become anything like Sue Hawk because her ranting was incoherent. I wonder if she would have won fan-favorite after her fans saw that. During the reunion, she was slightly more charming, perhaps because her face was significantly less frightening than it was on location.

The rest of the jury wasn’t much better, but there were some surprises. While Marty was sweaty, he wasn’t bitter. And please, Alina, shut the hell up with your insipid comments about boys and men. Fabio made Brenda and Benry and other jury members cry by explaining that his “gasoline to get to the end” was thoughts of his family; he said, “I’ve never put that kind of focus into something” and talked about his “jealousy that these three had a plan to be here.” I thought that’d win him a unanimous or near-unanimous vote.

After being his usual shadow of a self throughout the episode—Dan stood by as Fabio strategized with Holly, saying “What about me?”; he was also “way behind” (surprise) in both challenges, and later asked, “How many votes do we need?” while trying to strategize himself—Dan developed a rather abrasive personality the second he got voted out, going off in his final confessional and then in his jury Q&A, when he yelled at Sash and told him to “get that eye fixed” because of his wink, and told Chase “beauty fades, dumb is forever.”

Jeff Probst blogs the ‘Survivor: Nicaragua’ finale | PopWatch | EW.com

December 20th, 2010 | Posted in Episode 15 - Survivor

JANE WINS SPRINT AWARD
As I said in the show, it was a BLOWOUT.  She had 60 percent of the vote. The next closest were Holly and Fabio at about 10 percent. I’m happy for Jane. I think she will use that money to help make her life a bit easier. Two years worth of salary is a lot of money. What I like most about this award is that it’s based on fan voting, nothing else.

BOSTON ROB
I owe Rob an apology. I tried to squeeze in too much content before getting to Rob and as a result we were late on time, and so the band started playing as a cue for us to go to break and Rob did his best to rush through the story. That was my fault and I accept full responsibility. But damn, that baby is cute. That is three Survivor babies that have come from Survivor couples.  Rob and Amber have two and Jamie and Erik (from Survivor: China) have one as well!

REDEMPTION ISLAND
I do believe this is our biggest twist yet.

I do believe it will change the game in a huge way.

I do believe you are going to love it.

Give it a chance.  Have some faith that we know what you guys want and expect from your favorite show.

If after 6 episodes the majority of you do not love what is happening with Redemption Island, you can let me know and I will vote myself off the show.

More details about Survivor Redemption Island + reality blurred

December 20th, 2010 | Posted in Episode 15 - Survivor

The official announcement of Survivor Redemption Island on Sunday night was followed by additional details about the new, game-changing twist. Among other things, there will usually be two challenges per episode, a combined reward and immunity plus the new redemption duel, while the twist is something that CBS has rejected for years.

USA TODAY calls it a “long-term tweak to its format,” meaning we can expect this twist for future seasons (and the show will be renewed, and Jeff Probst will be back, unless someone does something really stupid).

The paper also reports that “Probst says he and executive producer Mark Burnett have been pushing CBS to make the change for two years,” which is really interesting. Why have they resisted it, besides the obvious general fear of change and risk that television network executives have, especially controlling ones?

‘Survivor’: Jeff Probst explains the game-changing ‘Redemption Island’ twist | Inside TV | EW.com

December 20th, 2010 | Posted in Survivor

“How it works is very simple,” explained Probst. “When you’re voted out at Tribal Council, you don’t go home. You’re not out of the game. You go to Redemption Island and you live alone. And at a certain point in the game another person will join you. You will compete in a duel. The winner stays. The loser goes home. So you’re continuing to live out there on your own with very basic supplies. But you’re still in the game. And at a certain point you’ll be allowed to reenter the game and have a shot at the money.” In other words, people that are voted out will compete against each other for a chance to later rejoin the game.
